BIENNALE INTERNAZIONALE DONNA — BID (INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL OF WOMEN) is a non-profit Association, founded in 2017 to champion women artists locally, nationally and internationally through the organization of an art Biennial dedicated to the work of talented women working today and based on an open call for artists. The primary ambition of BID is to contribute to the visibility of contemporary women artists (with no limitations on medium, age or country) who distinguish themselves in the field of visual arts by the quality of their work. Since its creation, BIDART has worked to make contemporary women artists visible by exhibiting, producing and posting content about their work; and producing an illustrated catalogue of each year’s BIDART Biennial.

The exhibition takes place in the magnificent, restored industrial warehouse building Magazzino 26 in the Old Port of Trieste, Italy. Designed by Paul Talabot and built between 1868 and 1883, the Old Port was aimed at consolidating the role of Trieste as a trading centre for the territories under the Austro-Hungarian rule but was largely abandoned beginning in the 1960's. In recent years, the Port of Trieste and the City have been working to breathe new life into the old port.

The Biennale Internazionale Donna has aimed, since it’s beginning, to contribute to the development of this historic district; to enhance and support, through art and culture. Trieste lies at the center of European culture - with its diverse languages - it has a rich literary legacy from Ranier Maria Rilke to James Joyce.

BID collaborates with artists and organizations from neighboring Vienna, Ljubljana, Berlin, Munich, Zagreb, Belgrade, Venice and Rome.
